Growing and Designing with Dahlias

Invaluable in the cutting garden for a riot of colour from mid-summer to the first frosts you will learn about what to look for when selecting the best varieties for floral design, how to propagate your favourites, growing them on and care for them through the four month flowering period and at the end of the season whether to lift or leave the tubers in the ground over winter.

After a demonstration on picking and conditioning for good vase life and strong regrowth you will be let loose to gather your favourites varieties and seasonal treasures in our fields and tunnels.

Back in the flower studio she will demonstrate her ‘grown in’ style and philosophy, explaining how she selects the right vessel and its importance in the size, shape, mood and style of the finished design.

Back in the flower studio the afternoon will be spent focusing on designing with dahlias to create a stunning centrepiece in a beautiful handmade ceramic bowl commissioned by a local potter. Rachel with demonstrate her ‘grown in’ style and philosophy using foam free techniques.

A two course homemade lunch and refreshments made with fresh produce from the kitchen garden are included.

Take home your vase arrangement, a bunch of your favourite dahlia varieties and a potted tuber.
