Field Assistant

This is a part time position for the months of March till October.
Primary duties will include all aspects of cut flower production including growing, maintaining, and harvesting of flowers for both on-farm sales, events and wholesale outlets.

The Role:
● Planting duties: assisting with the seeding of trays to transplanting of seedlings, plants and bulbs, all done by hand.
● Flower bed preparation and take down.
● Cultivation of flower beds, including hand weeding, hoeing, pruning and deadheading.
● Miscellaneous field work including fertilizing, netting, mulching, assisting with irrigation drip tape and direct watering.
● Harvesting of multiple flower crops in a timely manner, while maintaining harvesting protocols and post harvesting treatments.
● Assist with bunching of flowers in preparation for wholesale outlets.

Skills:
● Previous farming or gardening training or experience.
● Hardworking, energetic and self-motivated individuals that work quickly, efficiently with attention to quality and details. A fast paced learner, who follows instructions and is willing to ask questions when needed. Positive fun attitude.
● Enthusiasm for providing our customers with beautiful, fresh, local flowers
● Enjoys working outside in all weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, windy) while maintaining a positive attitude.
● Willing to adapt to changes in daily duties as needed. Work independently along with willingness to work within a team.
● Ability to lift and carry heavy items, perform repetitive tasks and be able to stand, bend, and kneel (or squat) for extended periods of time. This is a physically demanding position.
● Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Schedule: Approximately 16+ hours/week at £14 per hour.
Additional hours and days may be required during the busy Spring (May-June). Possible hours available during November, if interested. Our days are subject to Mother Nature therefore, flexibility is required. A typical day begins at 8am and ends at 3pm. Earlier start times are required on extremely hot days, to ensure harvesting is completed in a timely manner.
