Agrostemma githago – corncockle ‘Pink/Purple & White mix’

Cottage garden favourite and specially bred to produce tall stems topped by large light purple trumpet shaped flowers.  Blooms are wide open and are easy for pollinating insects to land on.  Cut flowers regularly and dead-head to make sure that plants continue to produce new blooms.

Plant type: hardy annual

Site: full sun

Height: 90cm

Spacing: 25cm

Sown to grown: 3 months

Min. seeds per packet: 150 seeds

Growing tips: Direct sow or modular sow in late Summer/early Autumn or Spring. Choose a sheltered position and net as they are very prone to wind rock.

Harvesting/Arranging tips: Pick when flowers are ideally half open or if fully open still displaying a satin sheen to the petals. I like this wild beauty simply paired with an Umbellifer Orlaya or Daucus and perhaps a smattering of Calendula or Nigella.

Vase life: 7 days
