Growing plants from seeds and cuttings is one of the most rewarding aspects of cut flower production – you will feel a real sense of satisfaction harvesting armloads of flowers started from scratch. It is also a cost effective way to fill your home with flowers or run a successful cut flower business.
Propagation is one of Rachel’s favourite subjects and something she has done for many years as a horticulturalist, the majority of flowers she works with have started off life in her greenhouse.
The aim of this fully practical class is to arm you with the knowledge and confidence to create a cut flower garden from seed, cuttings and division.
You will learn how to:
set up an efficient and productive propagating space
choose the right containers and compost
sow seeds both indoors and outdoors
prick out seedlings and grow them on
take basal cuttings from dahlias and chrysanthemums
By the end of day you will have propagated your own cutting patch to take home, which will produce an abundance of flowering stems from June through till October.
Full refreshments and home-cooked lunch provided.
