Limonium tataricum – Sea Spray

£3.00

Limonium tataricum – Sea Spray, German statice (syn. Goniolimon tataricum)

My favourite and most useful flower for drying with a very apt common name. Produces short but branched stems covered in small pale pink flowers which dry to white. Loved by bees and florists who do not want to use the dreaded floral foam for installation work. The perfect substitute for imported Gypsophila!

Plant type: perennial

Site: full sun, well drained soil

Height: 45cm

Spacing: 30cm

Sown to Grown: will flower in it’s second year from an early Spring sowing.

Min. seeds per packet: 50 seeds

Growing tips: Sow in early Spring. Germinates rapidly, keep seeds in constant moisture at about 20ºC, move to cooler conditions once germination has occurred. Grow on and plant out in late Spring to flower the following year in July.

Harvesting/Arranging tips: Pick when the flowers are fully open and tease apart the branching stems before hanging up in bunches to dry.

Beautiful in wreath work, where it’s frothy, silvery-white stems evoke thoughts of Narnia.
