Floral Favourites – The Tulip
The tulip is a flower that celebrates it’s time in the cutting garden with real panache. It is a treat to always feel spoilt by the overwhelming choice of colour and variety this flamboyant flower provides after the limited palette of the winter months. We normally plant over 50 varieties, all of which are works of art in themselves – from the luscious doubles to elegant lily-flowered types and the outrageous frills of the parrots.
The class will include lots of growing tips on how to produce top quality blooms for cutting, the best varieties for cutting, recommended suppliers and how to harvest and condition for optimum vase life. Of course, every star needs a supporting cast and so we will be also selecting what else to grow to achieve a good balance of shapes, textures and colours in your Spring arrangements.
After picking as much as you can fit in a bucket, Rachel will demonstrate how to work with these showstoppers to ensure they stay centre stage. Her demonstration will focus on foam free techniques whilst creating a light, airy, naturally stylish design.
Rachel is a firm believer in the vase being equally as important as the florals and now with her own pottery studio on the farm she is working on a G&G collection of bud vases, bottles and bowls. Take home your arrangement in a handmade bowl designed to complement these seasonal beauties, with a bunch of your favourite tulips. A two course homemade lunch and refreshments made with fresh produce from the kitchen garden are included.
